Our favourite green juice recipe
My kids love green juice and mornings around our house usually include some type of green juice or smoothie. Not only is it an excellent way to get in a bunch of green goodness, but there are a whole host of benefits that come along with green juice.
My key tip to making our favorite healthy green juice recipe is to keep the sugar low, or out completely. I know what you are thinking, doesn’t it taste tart without some sweetness? The more you drink green juices the more you get used to the taste, just like anything else.
What is the best green juice?
There is some debate as to whether green juice is healthy or not and in my opinion, any green juice that is low in sugar and high in nutrients is a great addition to a healthy lifestyle.
Stick to water-filled green veggies such as spinach, kale, celery, cucumber, and broccoli. Avoid adding sugar because sugar causes inflammation and that is exactly the opposite of what we want. Instead, add in an apple or pear for natural sweetness. Even though apples and pears are full of nutrients and enzymes, stick to just one fruit to make sure the sugar content stays low.
During the juicing process, it is possible to lose some of the fiber from the vegetables but as long as that is replenished elsewhere in the diet, it shouldn’t be a concern. green juice on an empty stomach is a great way to absorb all the nutrients but you could also alternate green juices with smoothies to ensure you still get enough fiber daily. I typically use my Vitamix blender to make our favorite green juice but I also borrow my mom’s juicer on occasion. Either option works great but you do keep more fiber using the Vitamix.

Important tip: Do not add citrus peels to the juicer or blender. The essential oils in the skin are much too powerful. Instead, remove the skins and add the whole lemon or lime in or squeeze the juice directly in.
Our Favorite Green Juice Recipe
- 2 cups organic spinach
- 1 cup organic kale
- 1 whole organic english cucumber
- 8 ribs organic celery
- 1 thumb size of organic ginger, peeled
- 1 lemon, beeled
- 1/2 organic apple or pear
- Combine all ingredients into juicer or vitamix and consume within two days.
